Learning Support (and bus driving)

My dream for Living School is that students adore it; that everyone who passes through its doors feels a sense of belonging and of the unique contribution they can make; and that it is an exemplar of what is possible when vision becomes reality. I believe that sturdy, respectful relationships are crucial for successful learning. If a primary aim of education is to develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full – as Article 29 of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child states – then as educators we must first establish connections and build trust. When we do this children feel safe, and flourish. When we do this we help create resilient, engaged, responsible, self-aware and content life-long learners and global citizens; we help equip children well for adult life. We also have enormous fun, and learn as much as we teach.

BACKGROUND

Lel has been involved in education since 2007. She started out designing and conducting radio broadcasting courses for Byron Community College and Lismore ACE, and in the process discovered that she loved helping people discover and explore what they love. Being in love with the English language herself, it seemed natural that she move into the ESL sector. She has worked in both Australia and Russia and has been involved in many aspects of ESL delivery, including exam preparation for Cambridge and IELTS students, study tours with young Japanese, Korean and Middle Eastern learners, and even Aviation English with Polish pilots and control tower staff. Lel feels extremely grateful for having had the opportunity to teach students of many different ages and cultural backgrounds, and from many different walks of life, and hopes to bring her skills, knowledge, wisdom and everything else she has learned in her 50+ years to her role as a Learning Guide (and bus driver!) at Living School.
