By implementing a Stationary Gym Generator that converts the kinetic energy of students running or walking on treadmills into clean electricity, this project introduces a practical fitness-to-fuel solution to slash the school's reliance on dwindling fossil fuels.

Design Manifesto

The problem: right now, a big environmental problem in schools and homes is that too much electricity/ energy is being wasted or released into the environment. This is bad because there is limited amount of fossil fuels left.  Only 30 years of oil, gas 40 years, coal 70 years. Using too many fossil fuels adds carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. 

The science: During my research, I found out that a typical school or community environment usually wastes about 150,000 to 250,000 w/h  every single week. 

Aim: To theoretically design, build a model of, and describe a stationary gym generator to help halve our school campus's use or release of energy. 

Hypothesis: if the school campus theoretically installs my system, then our total energy will be reduced because my system will generate electricity from kinetic energy from student movement.

The Problem

How might we design a stationary treadmill gym generator that captures the kinetic energy of students during workouts to create clean electricity and reduce our school's reliance on fossil fuels?

Our Sustainable Solution

The Technology Solution: My chosen green technology is called the stationary gym generator.  It helps solve this problem by generating electricity from students running or walking on the treadmill. This will reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use for electricity.

This theoretical design will be successful because a similar real-world project  was built in South Korea and it successfully generates 50-250 w/h per workout.
