Absences, Attendance and Roll Marking – Students

Absences, Attendance and Roll Marking

Regular attendance by each student is a legal requirement. Parents and school must assume the responsibility of regular attendance.  Policy and Resources.

Roll Marking and Attendance Management

All class rolls must be taken by 9.10 am daily using the attendance module in Classter. All absences, late arrivals and early leavers must be noted on the attendance module at the time of absence/late arrival/early leave. At 9:30 am each school day the school secretary will send an email to parents/carers who have not advised the school of a student’s absence.

Academy students’ attendance in specific subject lessons is recorded in the attendance module in Toddle.

Late Attendance

If a student arrives at school late, the parent or student is required to sign in at the School Office before the student proceeds to class. The School Office will enter the late arrival into the attendance module.  If a student needs to leave early, the parent (unless in Stage 6*) is required to sign the student out at the School Office before the student leaves class. The School Office will enter the early departure into the attendance module.

* Stage 6 students are able to sign themselves in and out – but they must not leave the campus or arrive late to class without first signing in/out at the office.

Notification of Absence – Parental Procedures

Parents are required to notify the School of the reason for an absence, when a student returns to school. If the absence is known in advance, parents may notify the school before the date of the absence. All notifications (verbal, email, telephone or written note) received from a parent regarding absences should explain the reasoning for the absence, late arrival or early departure and should be noted in the absence module.

As part of the implementation of the National Standards, holidays taken by students outside of school holiday periods will now be included as absences.  Families should be encouraged to holiday or travel during school holiday periods. Leave of 10 or more school days will require the completion of an ‘Application for Exemption from Attendance At School’ form.  This is obtained from and returned to the School Office, for approval by the Conductor.  Students who take more than 10 days leave will be required to complete reading and writing activities while away. This can be in the form of completing a travel diary and ensuring the student has access to suitable reading materials. Policy and Resources
