| Rights | Responsibilities |
| To be treated with politeness and fairness | Ensure that students are making a genuine effort at all times and in all activities. We are not ‘friends’ we are mentors, educators and behaviour guides.
Deal with colleagues professionally and kindly – but expect to be directed by staff in positions of responsibility. Abide by the Respect at Work expectations. If there is a concern, please refer first to your Learning Neighbourhood Director – and then (if warranted) a concern may move to our HR manager and/or Advocate before moving up to the Conductor. |
| To have their privacy respected | To be a mentor and role model does not mean you are required to communicate directly with students unless this has been discussed and approved with the Learning Neighbourhood Director. In cases such as assessment, feedback, excursions/camps/experiences – there is an expectation of consistent and timely communication.
Where possible, avoid sending emails on weekends to colleagues unless urgent and considered critical. Learn to schedule your emails for a suitable time during the week. |
| To have their professional skills and training respected | All staff are expected to be collegial and understand the power of collective efficacy. All teachers are expected to program, teach, assess, feedback, communicate and professionally develop effectively (respectfully, timely, honestly, and professionally). All teachers must adhere to our school’s, state and federal professional requirements. |
| To receive support on a regular basis regarding the administration and curriculum developments of the school with regard to learning and teaching | All Living School teachers are expected to heed and review all professional expectations, e.g.
All staff are able to access our confidential Employee Assistance Program support. Call 1800 644 327 or access the program online. |
| To work in a supportive and caring environment | Living School prides itself on setting high expectations for all of our community. Teachers and staff are role-models. The simple underpinning guideline is the Golden Rule.
There are expectations and our leadership team will support but expect all members to also be supportive and caring. |
| To have any complaints dealt with in an appropriate fashion | If a complaint is lodged by any member of our community it will be investigated. Where practicable, the emphasis will be on a restorative process. Teachers can expect parents to raise concerns directly to the Learning Neighbourhood Director and/or to the Conductor. If the Conductor receives a complaint, it will be raised with the relevant Learning Neighbourhood Director and/or HR Manager. |
