Attendance

Regular student attendance is a legal requirement. Parents and the school must assume the responsibility of regular attendance. Class rolls are taken by 9:15 am and at 9:30 am an email will be sent out to parents whose children were not present. When your child is more than 2 hours late they will be marked as partially absent. It is extremely important to maintain punctuality in the morning for the benefit of your child’s learning.

Notification of Absences Procedure

Parents are required to notify the School of the reason for an absence, when a student returns to school. If the absence is known in advance, parents may notify the school before the date of the absence. If your child is sick please email the office at [email protected] or call reception on 5632 1218, preferably on the day of the absence. All notifications (verbal, email, telephone or written note) received from a parent regarding absences should explain the reasoning for the absence, late arrival or early departure and should be noted in the absence module.

As part of the implementation of the National Standards, holidays taken by students outside of school holiday periods will now be included as absences.  Families should be encouraged to holiday or travel during school holiday periods. Leave of 10 or more school days will require the completion of an ‘Application for Exemption from Attendance At School’ form.  This is obtained from and returned to the School Office, for approval by the Conductor.  Students who take more than 10 days leave will be required to complete reading and writing activities while away. This can be in the form of completing a travel diary and ensuring the student has access to suitable reading materials.
