Communicating with Home

Effective communication with parents is essential for building strong relationships and fostering a positive learning environment.  All teachers are required to communicate with parents/carers in the first week of term to outline the curriculum, relay any organisation needs, and notify any timetable updates.  Outlining the planned curriculum, assessments and learning goals is vital for developing trust in our academic merits.

When communicating with parents it is important to remember these key principles of Living School’s trusting relationships:

  • A phone call may be best? consider a call rather than an email or SMS.  With a call there is dialogue and time-appropriateness.  An email may be opened late at night, or just after a home-life issue.
  • No surprises: do not leave things unattended and then bring them to the fore after serious developments
  • Respect: Always exhibit respect and treat people with consideration and dignity.
  • Kindness: Always treat parents with compassion and empathy
  • Clear: Be concise, use clear language and avoid educational acronyms
  • Positive: Be positive, solution – focused and avoid conflict.

* If you ever feel unsure how to appropriately communicate, please refer to your Learning Neighbourhood Director.

The following platforms are also used to communicate to parents and care givers:

  • Newsletter: published three times a term
  • Email / telephone: [email protected],
  • School Website: living.school, middle.living.school, living.academy
  • Facebook: Living School Byron
  • Instagram: @livingschoolbyronbay
