Behaviour management at Living School is founded on the belief we can guide and develop wise choices.  It is based on positive and trusting relationships.  “Behaviour” is really defined as personal and social awareness and regulation.  At the first and foremost level, the teacher must take responsibility.  The school has support systems in place, but the teacher is responsible for managing and communicating poor choices.

The teacher is expected to take the following steps:

Use democratic principles to establish class expectations (based on the documents attached) – student agency allows ownership and buy-in, especially when what a class has agreed upon is visible and referenced regularly.

Caution and pull up inappropriate behaviour that impacts safety and/or learning opportunities – or behaviour that breaches our Code of Conduct for Students.

Act with care and consideration. Care is not about acting in the moment – true care is about considering the child as an adult, and understanding the developmental milestones (and mistakes) as a child takes that journey.
