Each parent has a parental responsibility towards their child/ren. This means both parents share equally the legal rights and long term obligations with respect to their children.

Each parent has the right and responsibility to participate in decisions that affect their child, including the power to make decisions about the child’s education, health and welfare.

In order to avoid any confusion, the school requires that a copy of any Family Law Orders made by the Courts or any parenting agreement be provided to the school by parents. If orders or agreements are subsequently varied by the Court, copies of any new orders or agreements should also be provided and kept with the student records. The school’s obligation is to comply with these arrangements.

Occasionally, one parent will not agree that the other has a right to participate in or receive information about the student’s education. However, in the absence of a court order, each parent has equal rights and responsibilities in respect of the student. Any matters regarding Family Law should be directed to the Conductor immediately.

Court Orders are confidentially kept but teachers will note a flag on a student’s file in Classter.  There may be a summary.  It is the responsibility of the teacher to seek out information to avoid any misaligned actions.
